So, I follow most of the social media feeds of my local area dealerships. Why? Because cars, duh. Also because I don't know why. But I do, so there.
Anyway, local GM dealership posts their sales on Fwitterbooktace and they just moved (last week) a CTS-V coupe. I made a comment about the bread and butter business being the movement of units but that surely selling the occasional CTS-V, ZL1's and C7's is what drives salesmen, or at least, would drive me. Said, though, that it was too bad that the CTS-V wasn't a wagon.
The reply comes back that they actually have one on the lot, a black beauty. I'm like, word? So this weekend I go down to check the car out, while the dealership is closed of course, and it's none other then the very first one I ever saw, touched, felt.
This one.
Which, sure... it's an Automatic, but it's used (and I know the former owner and what he's had done to it) and it's for sale in my local area.
So, I'm looking at it and my wife, who happens to be there is like, "So this is like the one we drove, only better?" She was speaking of the ATS 2.oT we had on test. I'm all, yes... because wagon and horses and wagon horses horse wagon... brain melt.
She's all looking at it from the side.
And then she says it, not in the non-committal way she always has in the past like, "Yeah, that's okay." She says, "If you want to, I'm good with it but if you could wait like seven months it'd be better."
But she gets that it may not sit. So I'm all excited, like a puppy and thinking maybe I'll go down and have a look. Post on my FB, by way of reply, "Take my Mustang on trade and keep my payments between $400-$500 a month."
And they're all, "Come by the dealership."
Come by the dealership.
Come buy.
Buy.
And this is the look I've been wearing ever since, because I'm afraid to say yes to the dress.
No, wait... sorry... this one...

DO IT
DO IT
DO IT

Good thing it's automatic. Makes it much easier to not sign your name on the dotted line.
Christmas debt hangs around just as long as regular debt :)
![]() 12/23/2013 at 19:15 |

But, the thing with the wagon is it's practical.
Which means good DD
Which means, if you have traffic to deal with, you want the auto.
If it's not a DD, then yeah definitely go for the manual lol.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 19:17 |

My only question is why haven't you bought it yet. :)

Who buys a CTS-V Sportwagon as anything but a DD? I mean, it's like the ultimate DD of all ever.
And, to be fair, this is the one car I'd take in autotragic if I had to.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 19:20 |
|
If it was a manual, I'd say do it.
Since it's not, eh...FUCK IT DO IT ANYWAYS WHY HAVEN'T YOU ALREADY?!
![]() 12/23/2013 at 19:20 |
|
True, but it's debt for debt anyway, so what's the big debt?
Hah!
Sadly though, the automatic
wouldn't
keep my name from appearing on the line because it's the
only
car I'd take in automatic if I had to. Well, save those currently not offered with a manual option.

Because I don't know what they're asking or if what they're asking is even sensible on a used CTS-V Sportwagon. Like, I wouldn't be surprised if they were asking $60K +. So, I'm going to wait until I know what the sticker is before I get stucker.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 19:22 |
|
Because I don't know the asking price yet and I'm afraid the sticker will be up at $60K +.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 19:24 |

the real answer is that this is a major decision that you need to figure out on your own.
that being said, do it.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 19:24 |

Demuro'd. That's it. I'm inventing a new term. Demuro'd- for when someone buys an otherwise awesome car, but they end up with an automatic.
Anyways, why aren't you posting this from the dealership?
![]() 12/23/2013 at 19:25 |

Are you married?
Has your wife ever said to you, "I don't care what you do?"
Because that's what this answer feels like.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 19:25 |

Do it.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 19:26 |

Sticker. Don't know what they're asking yet.
Afraid that once I know I'll either weep in woe or jump for joy.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 19:26 |
|
So, I would be Demuro'd then? I ended up with an auto IS300 because it was 5 miles away and had low mileage. But, if the trans blows up, I'm totally getting a manual swap lol.

Been coined a while ago.

I suppose so. It's for when there was an option to get a stick, but the buyer opts out due to convenience.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 19:31 |

It probably is. They start at $65,000
EDIT: Also, you've inspired me to follow dealerships on FB. Could be interesting

Goddammit. Well, I'll still take credit though.

For something that I may have coined months ago?

TheLOUDMUSIC'd. That's it.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not an AT-hating Jalop that thinks that everyone must have sticks NO MATTER WHAT. I just wrote this piece today:
http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/ode-to-the-six…
I just meant that it's easier to not buy the CTS-V wagon if you prefer stick (and if the stick would be practical for your commute). And we all need reasons NOT to buy sometimes because we want so many things. Very easy to rack up too much debt cause of cars! (I'm the poster child of that, haha)
![]() 12/23/2013 at 19:50 |

I'm in high school, so no, I'm not married.
in fact being a teenager, the decision making area in my brain has not yet fully matured, so I shouldn't be giving advice anyway, least of all financial ones.
so ignore my answer.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 19:51 |

Haha true. Rolling debt over for more debt is no biggie. We don't really need to eventually own anything. And unlike a house you can sell a car at any time if the debt gets too much :)
Argh stop infecting my mind with these thoughts. I can't afford another car payment. But the bank would give me one if I applied. I want an Xmas present to myself now ;)

Eh, it was fully 10 grand more than I was prepared to consider. I guess my expectations for the depreciation of said car up here in Canadaland were too high. It's a shame, too, because they command much more realistic prices in the 'States while so few were ever actually sold here that they still command a premium for being V Sportwagons.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 20:07 |
|
How much does it cost to import a car from the states?
![]() 12/23/2013 at 20:08 |
|
Depends on the vehicle and the importer(s).
But in this case? Right around the difference.
So, yeah.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 20:11 |

oh bummer
if the delta between US prices and PoliteLand prices gets big enough to make it worth it let me know. i can go check out cars in so cal for you.

California. If only.
Outside of Florida, it's the best market for picking up used CTS-V Sportwagons. In both markets there are enough of them that the prices are competitive but up here that's not so much the case - they're a real rarity.
I've seen them as low as $40K in both markets. In fact, I think Doug Demuro just sold his for around that benchmark. But up here? Haha. Such expensive. So wow. Many sad.

Is that Black diamond or their regular black
![]() 12/23/2013 at 20:21 |

CA cars are the best! No salt on the roads. And no swampy ulta humid conditions to make the leather peel right off the car.
If they fall to $33K here then you gotta let me get one for you!

If you don't want it...
![]() 12/23/2013 at 20:27 |

We need to bring this into the public spotlight.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 20:44 |

Haha I was kidding around...I feel that if you just leave a stack of bills amount to about 50k plus a nice handwritten note and just borrow it indefinitely they'd totally understand.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 20:45 |
|
Black Diamond.
![]() 12/23/2013 at 20:46 |
|
Could do. Could do.
If they fall to $33K there, then they'll be about $29-30K in Flo Rida.

Dear Sir,
I have attached the sum of fifty thousand dollars in non-sequential, unmarked bills in part exchange for your Cadillac CTS-V Sportwagon carriage. The other part of the exchange is thus; you are now in possession of fifty thousand dollars of stolen currency - if you tell, I tell.
Yours most sincerely,
Lord Fuckington Inyer Bottomwise.

You can't trust cars from FL.
90% of them have a hidden compartment full of cocaine

I used to work at a used luxury car dealer in Baltimore, where the owner would buy cars at auction with his heart, not his head (that's why the dealer is no longer around). I remember right when before I quite (due to terrible management), he just bought a 2011 CTS-V Wagon M/T, identical to the one you saw. Right when I was leaving the dealer after quitting, it was pulling in on a flatbed.
If only I quit the following day...

Variation: the expletive you use when you see an online car listing for the mythical unicorn you've been seeking... and it's an automatic. DeMUROOOOOOH!
